09.03.19: Pre-Flight Checks

We set up the tent yesterday, to make sure that it was still in good condition. There was rain in the forecast for today, but none for the following week. So we decided a rain check would be advisable before I end up in Florida with the tent loaded with gear... The rain stopped mid-afternoon, so when we got home we checked the tent. Seam-sealing a tent 5+ years ago does not make for sealed seams 5+ years later. Add to shopping list: Tarp for ground cover & seam sealer. I think the rain fly seam was leaking, and also some of the seams around the doors. We got about 1/4" of rain, and it was pretty steady and gentle for most of the morning, so it wasn't too bad within the tent. That made me feel pretty good that we should be able to reinforce this and be OK. Adding a ground cover under the tent will also help to prevent some of the water issues that I was having. That and being on more level ground, too, I think. I will just have to be really thorough with the seam sealing to make sure that it takes care of everything. Once that is all nice and dry, then I'll have to give the tent a bath again. We don't have to worry about rain coming again until Wednesday, and by that time the tent had better be packed up again!

The tack trunk is sitting in the living room right now. The regurgitation of everything that was in it has calmed itself, and is mostly back in order. Conveniently we received a large box (overkill for the video camera that was inside a smaller box, I should note that the video camera is only the size of a jar of mayonnaise and the larger box is about 1 1/2' x 2'...) and so I dumped all of the excess junk into it that I would not be needing on my trip, and so now the trunk has considerably more room in it.

The next step is to get my clothes together, and the rest of my bedding stuff. At that point, there shouldn't be too much else that is left. I am planning on taking one rubbermaid trunk, possibly one other smaller rubbermaid, and then a duffle bag. The rubbermaids will give me some "table space" in the tent, and I can just put the duffle into the larger one. Hopefully I might not need the second smaller rubbermaid. I will also have my tv tray, and two awesome camp chairs that have side tables on them. I am planning on bringing a small clothes drying rack, and also have some wire cube things that I can put together for some additional shelf space. My tent should be pretty tricked out!
